People's Tour - Mukuyu Edition

The rally was held in Kiharu constituency, Murang'a, as part of a wider route through Mukuyu in township ward, with Ndindi Nyoro using the stop to formally launch the People's Party of Kenya and declare his own leadership ambition.

Nyoro framed his candidacy around the idea that leadership must be sought rather than given, repeatedly asking the crowd for permission to lead, to sell PPK within the opposition, and to speed up removing President Ruto from office. He set out policy proposals on education, health, jobs, debt and natural resources, and made an appeal for opposition unity behind a single presidential ticket ahead of 2027.

Nyoro opened by launching the People's Party of Kenya and declaring his own ambition, arguing that leadership is not handed to anyone at their mother's house but must be stepped out for and sought, as other leaders have done. He asked the crowd repeatedly for permission to lead, to sell PPK inside the opposition, and to increase the pace of removing President Ruto from power.

He named two enemies of the country: poor leadership under the Ruto government, and the hardship ordinary Kenyans are enduring, saying the opposition must respond with concrete plans rather than complaints.

On education, he proposed free senior secondary schooling from January 2028, modelled on Kiharu where fees are already 500 shillings, costed at 10 billion shillings from Ng-CDF nationwide, 10 billion from county governments and 15 billion from the national government, covering an estimated 3.5 million students who would learn, eat at school and go home paying nothing.

On health, he proposed halving NSSF contributions and redirecting that half into healthcare, topped up by about 40 billion shillings, to relieve families burdened by hospital bills.

On jobs, he said he has already researched and written a youth employment plan built on manufacturing, tourism and agriculture, aimed at restoring the pace of growth Kenya saw under Mwai Kibaki.

On debt, he warned that Kenya is close to being unable to service what it owes, that this would affect every Kenyan, and called for restructuring to cut servicing costs. On resources, he said no individual would be allowed to grab Turkana oil or minerals at Mrima Hills, insisting these must fund growth and debt repayment instead.

His central political ask was opposition unity: one flag bearer and one running mate agreed around a table rather than through rival rallies, so that the 2027 election is decided in a single round. He urged leaders not to love themselves too much, pledged not to quarrel with anyone in the opposition, and welcomed Gachagua, Matiang'i, Kalonzo, Sifuna, Karua and Moturi to Murang'a as friends.

He drew a line on who PPK is not for: people still in government whose work has involved insulting opposition leaders, and people who bring chaos into churches, saying such people should first go reconcile with those they had abused.

He recalled having campaigned countrywide for Ruto, said the president's real agenda turned out to be removing Gachagua, himself, Mohamed Ali, Linturi and Jumwa, and promised to campaign from Marsabit to Mandera. He closed by saying the spirit of Matiba has been resurrected.
