At the Peoples Party of Kenya (PPK), we believe that a
food-secure nation is a strong nation. Agriculture is not only the backbone
of Kenya’s economy but also the key to eliminating hunger, reducing poverty,
and creating employment. Our commitment is to transform the agricultural sector
into a modern, productive, and climate-resilient engine of growth.
1. A Comprehensive National
Food Policy
PPK will develop and enforce a robust national food policy that
ensures every Kenyan has access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food. This
policy will guide production, storage, distribution, and emergency response to
food insecurity.
2. Modern Farming for Arid
and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs)
Recognizing the untapped potential of ASALs, PPK will invest in irrigation
infrastructure and smart farming technologies to boost productivity in
regions that have traditionally been sidelined. This includes promoting
climate-smart agriculture, drip irrigation, and drought-resilient practices.
3. Agricultural Research and
Innovation
To support farmers and improve crop yields, PPK will fund and
collaborate with research institutions to develop and disseminate
high-yielding, drought-tolerant, and early-maturing crop varieties. We will
also promote agroecology and sustainable farming techniques.
4. Fair Market Access and
Farmer Incentives
Farmers are the heartbeat of the nation’s food system. PPK will ensure
they are treated fairly by:
- Strengthening
cooperatives and farmer unions.
- Creating
reliable market channels both locally and
internationally.
- Ensuring
timely payment and fair pricing for their produce.
- Investing
in market infrastructure such as rural roads and digital platforms.
5. Sustainable Food Storage
Systems
Post-harvest losses remain a major challenge. PPK will build and
modernize grain silos and cold storage facilities to ensure food stability
and reduce waste. We will support community-level storage initiatives and train
farmers on proper handling and preservation.
